Prof. Dr. Fatma HAZIR BIKMAZ

Fatma BIKMAZ, dean of the Ankara University Faculty of the Educational Sciences and Professor of Education, is also the Head of the Department of Educational Sciences.

Dr. Bıkmaz earned her PhD degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Ankara University Faculty of Educational Sciences after obtaining an undergraduate and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the same university’s Graduate School of Social Sciences. During her PhD education, Dr. Bıkmaz was awarded the Turkish Academy of Sciences’ Integrated PhD Scholarship to lead research at Arizona State University in the U.S. Dr. Bıkmaz was also granted the Singapore Cooperation Programme Training Award on teacher education in 2007, which was organized in cooperation with Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Institute of Education (NIE).

Dr. Bıkmaz joined the faculty as a research assistant at Ankara University Faculty of Educational Sciences, where she also worked as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Full Professor. In the framework of Higher Education Council of Turkey’s Scholarship Program, Dr. Bıkmaz also worked at Columbia University Teachers College as an Honorary Postdoctoral Fellow, where she did research on the Models in Teacher Professional Development between 2011 and 2012.

Dr. Bıkmaz who is serving as the Dean of the Ankara University Faculty of Educational Sciences, continues to teach courses at undergraduate and graduate levels. Her primary research interests involve curriculum development, science curriculum, pre-service teacher education, teacher induction, and professional development of teachers. Dr. Bıkmaz is an active member of such professional organizations as the Association for Teacher Education in Europe (ATEE), the International Society for Teacher Education (ISfTE), and the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE).
